Permitted Development Rights for Change of Use from Commercial to ResidentialPosted on by PlanRight
Local planning authorities will be able to opt out of changes to allow offices to be converted into housing ‘where this can be justified on economic grounds’, the government said on Friday.
Announcing details of the coalition’s policy to allow offices to be converted into homes without planning permission, communities secretary Eric Pickles said that the new permitted development rights would allow change of use from B1(a) offices to C3 residential.
LPAs can apply for an exemption but this has to be justified.
The change is due to come into force in Spring 2013.
